On June 5, 2007, The Hillside Trust and Human Nature presented the findings of a year long study of the Cincinnati Scenic Views in the City of Cincinnati to the Economic Development Committee at City Hall. The Economic Development Committee is chaired by Chris Bortz with members Leslie Ghiz, Jeff Berding, David Crowley, Chris Monzel, Cecil Thomas and James Tarbell.

The city-wide study was initiated by Council member David Crowley after private development threatened to block the views from the Carney Street / Pavilion Street curve in Mt. Adams.

The study, presented by Eric Russo of The Hillside Trust, identified over 90 key view corridors in the Cincinnati area and outlined an approach for the City of Cincinnati to manage these irreplaceable assets.

Each scenic view area was evaluated and prioritized based on several criteria, then catalogued along with ownership information. A complete listing of the view corridors are noted in the report with accompanying photos.

Several important recommendations for scenic view management and preservation were included at the conclusion of the presentation. The first recommendation was to convene a blue ribbon committee to review all the study’s recommendations and report to Council on steps necessary to implement the recommendations.

At the end of the study presentation, community members were given an opportunity to speak on the study results and recommendations. Several residents and business owners of Mt. Adams, Price Hill, East Walnut Hills and Clifton, spoke in favor of the study’s recommendation.

A motion was presented to the Economic Development Committee and unanimously approved to create the blue ribbon committee in order to further review the study and give their recommendations to the full City Council in the fall.
