I’ve been working with wordpress for 6 months now and really enjoy the ease of development and all the great plugins and support. I’ve worked with joomla for many years. And now I have discovered a plugin/component that works great with both – xcloner.
Xcloner is a flexible backup system that works for me. I tried quite a few and either the restore wouldn’t work or there were errors during the backup process. Xcloner was the most consistent but a little complicated at first.
I’ve worked with joomla a long time and find it easy to move from host to host or create a local copy, wordpress, however, has been more challenging. But now it is much easier to backup and move a wordpress website. Using xcloner to get the files and database. Then, use velvet blues update urls plugin to make most of the database changes. Velvet blues does not handle the challenging wp-options table but it does all the rest. And it is that wp-options table in wordpress I find a bit difficult.
