Jigoshop is a Great Ecommerce Plugin

I have been working with jigoshop for a few months now and am very impressed.  Compared to the other ecommerce systems I”ve worked with – virtuemart and some custom ones – its ease of use and performance is far better.  Jigoshop is a fork of  WooCommerce, which I have not used, so I can’t tell you how they compare.  What I do know is that almost everything we have wanted to do on our website we have been able to do with Jigoshop.  It helps that the theme – Sommerce – works very well with Jigoshop.  And the things we couldn’t get jigoshop to do – a pop-up size chart, for example, – I was able to write a plugin fairly quickly that did what the client wanted.  The hooks within jigoshop were clear and easy to use.

I also quickly installed jigoshop  on a new website that isn’t ready for full-fledged shopping at this time.  I did have to use css to comment out the “add to cart” but I know it will be easy to convert their catalog to online shopping when they are ready.

We did have some development pains.  A few updates completely crashed our website and there were a few other glitches.  But we were able to work everything out and received good support from the developers.  One of my main issues was that you could not send custom emails.  I had to hack the system or pay for an extension – I do think woocommerce has the ability to customize emails so hopefully the jigoshop developers will add this feature.

We also used 2 pay plugins – authorize.net and jigoshop ups plugin.  We had no trouble with the authorize plugin but the ups plugin was also experiencing growing pains.  We worked with the developer to get the plugin to work correctly and it seems to be performing fine now.

Overall I am happy with jigoshop and will be using or recommending it to people who want to use wordpress as an ecommerce site.
