WordPress vs Wix

Website builders have gotten so much better.  There are many, many out there but I spent a little time look at Wix. I did not take the leap and actually build a Wix website but if I did it would probably only take a couple of hours. Wix seems great.

Editor
Their editor is simple to use. It is a WYSWYG and seems intuitive.

# of Templates
Lots of beautiful templates – over 500. I think they are a little tricky to customize if not using the automated customizations.

Functionality
I see easy add-ons for lots of basic website stuff – forms, maps, calendars, bookings, galleries and so much more!

SEO
not sure

Mobile/Responsive
I don’t think they use bootstrap and

Speed
In the past I have noticed that Wix websites don’t seem to be very fast but that may have changed.

Cost
basic plan is $13/mo (hosting for wordpress is about $7/mo but you may have to pay a developer to help). So, difference in cost after 5 years (with no developer: wordpress costs $360 less).

Ownership
I guess you own it but it would be hard to move in future since the code and domain are all tied to Wix.

Summary
Clearly the Ease of Use is better than WordPress and cost is comparable (and you don’t have to be a programmer). For small businesses where traffic and complicated functionality is not an issue Wix seems like a perfect fit.
